Session 1: Acting for the Musical Stage
Discover how “acting a song” is different from simply singing what’s on the page and learn the “realism” style of acting. Topics include: identifying objectives, identifying shifts in thought/beats, monologuing the material, and point of focus work.
Instructor Andrew Abrams has worked as a vocal /acting coach and voice teacher at NYU, Pace University, AMDA, and privately in both New York City and Madison. He has taught this and other acting workshops at Wisconsin Theatre Auditions and various colleges including North Central College.
Session 2: Introduction to Stage Combat
Learn the rudiments of fight choreography as well as the rules of safely performing on stage. From basic slaps to more difficult punches and short fight sequences this hands-on workshop will expose each participant to realistic physical techniques.
Instructor Jeff Skubal is a graduate of the UW-Madison Department of Theatre and Drama. Jeff served as the fight choreographer for FST’s August 2007 production of WEST SIDE STORY where he created the memorable Prologue and Rumble sequences and is also the fight choreographer for Madison Opera.
Session 3: Monologue Workshop
Gain the skills to choose, prepare and perform a monologue for your next audition as well as learn to make strong choices at a cold reading. Please bring two copies of a monologue you are interested in working on (one for taking notes and one for the instructor).
