Four Seasons Youth Theatre

Four Seasons Youth Theatre strives to provide opportunities for young artists to study, create, refine, and perform high quality musical theatre works from a variety of cultures and periods. Our organization is committed to projects that recognize and cultivate best practices in the field of arts education for youth and that employ the arts in strengthening and enriching the Madison area community.

Each year we offer a one day musical theatre intensivein the fall and spring, offer a two week summer musical theatre workshop, and produce a large scale musical.

Please note: We are not offering a Summer Workshop in 2010 but will resume our youth workshops in Fall 2010.

In July 2007, Four Seasons Youth Theatre presented Once On This Island, a Caribbean retelling of the story of the Little Mermaid.  With music and lyrics by Ahrens and Flaherty and choreography and direction by Amanda Poulson, this production showcased some of the best and brightest of the greater Madison area featuring 45 students ages 9-19 in the cast and ten high school student interns who participated in our Backstage Arts Internship program.

Our first Four Seasons Youth Theatre production was Les Miserables, which featured a talented cast of students from 22 different middle and high schools.

From a June 29, 2006 Letter to the Editor in The Capital Times:

Thanks and praise to all young performers (none older than 18) for a treasure of a dramatic evening. You captured the very essence of the drama!

Madison should be proud and grateful that so many deserving young performers were given this rich opportunity to hone their vocal and dramatic techniques in a stellar production. The singing of all soloists would have been a credit to an adult cast, but the energy, enthusiasm and beauty of their young voices made familiar songs vital and heartbreaking. The ensemble unit and spirit were so strong, whether playing dandies and street walkers, bar maids or anguished youths facing sure death in the French revolution.

The visionaries of Four Seasons Youth Theatre are Andrew Abrams, Jamie Pitt, Amanda Paulson, Erin Burke and Sarah Marty. May many more such vibrant productions be added to their credits in the future.

Theatrical reviewers will find no loose ends or technical shortcomings to drone on about in this "Les Mis." Performers from many Dane County schools gave 110 percent of focused energy to moving realization of their character and singing. Every supporting ensemble member was also a star.

Kudos to all performers, production staff and Four Seasons Youth Theatre founders for this treasure.
