Music by Stephen Flaherty. Lyrics by Lynn Ahrens. Book by Terrence McNally.
Based on the 1975 novel by E.L. Doctorow, RAGTIME weaves together the stories of three intersecting groups in the U.S. in the early 20th century: Eastern European immigrants, the African American community in Harlem, and an upper-class white family. Together, they confront history’s timeless tensions of wealth and poverty, freedom and prejudice, hope and despair.
Four Seasons Theatre performs RAGTIME: The Symphonic Concert, prepared by the original creators Terrence McNally, Lynn Ahrens, and Stephen Flaherty especially for the 2023 season of The Boston Pops. The Four Seasons Theatre concert will feature a cast of 24 singers and actors supported by an orchestra of 34 players.
“It was the music of something beginning. An era exploding. A century spinning. In riches and rags and in rhythm and rhyme. The people called it ragtime.”
- Lyrics by Lynn Ahrens
