We thought it would be fun to share a few stories from each of our Sondheim fanatics in the cast of our upcoming Cabaret @ the Circle, February 16 at The Play Circle at the Memorial Union.
Sarah Streich in an FST favorite, seen most recently in The Spitfire Grill and featured as Bianca in our 2014 production of Kiss Me, Kate and Eliza Doolittle in our 2011 production of My Fair Lady.
Favorite Sondheim show: Sunday in the Park with George or Into the Woods
Favorite Sondheim song: “Not a Day Goes By”
Favorite Sondheim role I’ve played: I’ve only played two! Amy in Company and Emma Goldman/Ensemble in Assassins. They are so different. If I HAD to pick a favorite between them, I think it would be… Amy.
Sondheim role I want to do: Dot in Sunday in the Park with George, The Witch in Into the Woods, Joanne in Company
Sondheim role I want to do but probably won’t be cast as: Georges in Sunday in the Park with George, Little Red in Into the Woods
Best Sondheim experience: Holding hands with Mandy Patinkin and singing “Move On” from Sunday in the Park with George with him behind the last row of seats in the Shubert Theatre in Chicago after one of his concerts.
Theatre ritual or good-luck charm: I am surprisingly not at all superstitious about my theatre “rituals” before a performance. I think I consider my wedding ring my good luck charm. I hate leaving it at home when I go the theater.
Favorite Sondheim lyric: “I chose, and my world was shaken. So what? The choice may have been mistaken, the choosing was not. You have to move on.” (From “Move On,” Sunday in the Park with George)
As a Sondheim Fanatic I Confess That: I don’t really know Sweeney Todd very well. I know, I know! I’m the worst.
